Okay, I’m going to be disgusting for a few minutes, but bear with me ………….. there’s a point to this.
When was the last time you smelled your own breath first thing in the morning or after a cup of coffee? Not sure how it smells? Ask your spouse or a friend.
Or maybe you could run your fingers under your armpits. Sniff. Smell good?
Try rolling a finger inside your belly button or in your ear. Now sniff. Like that aroma?
Okay, now take your shoes and socks off and run your finger between your toes. Take whiff of that. Pee-eeww!
I’m not even going to mention the more dangerous areas. Now you know why people have been using perfume for thousands of years. Why do you think aroma therapy is so popular?
Let’s face it – people stink ………. literally. If we smell this bad when we are alive, how bad do you think we smell when we’re dead?
Now consider this – you were dead …….. we all were. The apostle Paul wrote in several of his letters that we were all dead in our sin –
13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Dead ………. but now made ALIVE!!
9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
What great news!! Even though we were smelly and dead, we have been made alive in Christ and now we are a fragrant offering, with an aroma that is pleasing to God. Think of that. When God is in your presence, he not only sees something beautiful, he smells something beautiful. Like a walk through a lovely flower garden where a wonderful bouquet fills the air. Or a warm batch of cookies fresh out of the oven………. mmmm ………..
41 As a pleasing aroma I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered. And I will manifest my holiness among you in the sight of the nations.
Yeah, it’s nice to know that I don’t have to worry about my bad body odor. At least not with God ……….. the rest of you will still have to suffer.
By the way, I discovered some pretty amusing stories from the internet while researching this. Just type in the search bar, “Why do I smell so bad?”
Mugs up! Here’s to a beautiful, wonderful day!!
