Sometimes I feel like I need something to liven up my life. Not that I need more to do or even more exciting things to do. That’s not what I’m referring to. What I want is to be infused with energy and enthusiasm to make whatever I’m doing more fun and rewarding both for myself and for everyone else involved. Kind of like a little spice livens up a dull meal.
Enthusiasm – intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval. It comes from the Greek word enthousiasmos – to be inspired by God
2 Corinthians 9:2 (NIV)
2 For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action.
What a great compliment! Paul was so proud of the church in Corinth and their eager desire to assist other believers that he was openly boasting about it. The enthusiasm of the Corinthian church inspired other churches to give as well.
The NIV version uses the phrase stirred to action – to provoke, incite, and stimulate, but in a good sense.
Bold enthusiasm is contagious. It’s like pushing a boulder down a mountain slope. It requires some initial force to make it move but once started, the inertia carries it all the way to the bottom. The further it travels, the more powerful it becomes.
That’s the kind of enthusiasm I want – that’s the spice I need!
Another day to raise my mug! Here’s to putting a little spice on your day – live life enthusiastically!!
